Screen Alliance North named finalist at the Get the Nation Learning Awards

Screen Alliance North has been recognised at the 2026 Get the Nation Learning Awards acknowledging the impact of its work to create more accessible and inclusive routes into the screen industries across the North of England.

The Get the Nation Learning Awards ceremony is the biggest celebration of lifelong learning in England and took place on Wednesday 4 November at The Royal Society, London. Screen Alliance North, one of the six BFI Skills Clusters, made up of Liverpool Film Office, North East Screen, Screen Manchester and Screen Yorkshire, was awarded as a finalist for the Talent is Everywhere Award sponsored by Kaplan.

The award celebrates organisations breaking down barriers to learning and opportunity and recognises Screen Alliance North’s place-based, data-led approach to developing a skilled, diverse and sustainable screen workforce.

The awards panel was impressed by Screen Alliance North’s pioneering new approaches to workforce development, including delivering one of the first specialist Sustainability Manager training programmes in the UK.

Penny Hall, Screen Alliance North, partnership lead said;

Across our work, Screen Alliance North uses real-time intelligence from our regional Film Offices and production partners, alongside crew and workforce data, to identify skills gaps and develop training that responds directly to the needs of productions and the people working in them. Working across the North East, North West and Yorkshire, the partnership is helping ensure that regional talent can access meaningful opportunities and build sustainable careers.

In our initial three years, we have supported 4,056 participants through training courses and engaged 6,112 HE and FE students in introductory industry-led workshops, with 499 industry placements helping people gain valuable production experience and take their next step into employment.

The celebration of Screen Alliance North comes during Get the Nation Learning Week, the high point of the Get the Nation Learning campaign. This campaign aims to make and win the case for lifelong learning and galvanise action amongst employers, government, communities, and learning providers. It’s backed by approaching 250 organisations, including household names like Channel 4, The British Army, and Age UK. Across Get the Nation Learning Week, campaign supporters are raising the profile of the movement and taking action to engage more adults in learning.

Stephen Evans, Chief Executive of Learning and Work Institute, said:

The Get the Nation Learning Awards recognise the very best in adult learning. They spotlight organisations leading the way in ensuring everyone has the opportunity to learn throughout life and individuals with remarkable learning journeys. We are delighted that Screen Alliance North is one of our award finalists this year. This recognition celebrates their achievements and contribution to learning, and highlights the powerful difference that learning can make to people’s lives.
